Holonym System Overview
The Holonym system operates through three main types of participants and a three-step process:
Key Actors
Users receive and present credentials to demonstrate personal facts, typically to satisfy organizational requirements.
Issuers distribute credentials to users, often leveraging third-party identity providers during the verification process.
Consumers modify user access or permissions based on proven facts. For instance, an organization might restrict voting rights to users in specific countries.
Core Actions
The system follows a sequential workflow:
- Issuance — An issuer distributes a credential to a user
- Proving — A user demonstrates facts about themselves using their credentials
- Access Control — A consumer grants or denies user access based on what was proven
